 "Work fine, but ..." 2010-01-02
By Ronald M Mullins (Hammond, Indiana)
The Samsung BD-P3600 worked great except for one thing, it could not PC Stream HD files. I have several HD movies which I have on a TVersity Media Server. I use a PlayStation3 to display the HD content on my Samsung 61" DLP Monitor. Since I wanted to give my son back his PS3, I purchased the Samsung BD-P3600. I was very disappointed that the Samsung BD-P3600 could not process HD file content on the TVersity Media Server. My son explained that because the Samsung BD-P3600 does not connect to the TVersity Media Server as a server such as "Netflix's" ,Blockbuster" , or "YouTube" server; but reads the data directly from the hard drive, the processing power from the TVersity Media Server is lost; thus the stream is very weak.

If the Samsung BD-P3600 could connect to my TVersity Media Server, then I believe this Blue Ray player would work fine, but it does not. So I am returning Samsung BD-P3600 on Monday morning. This is one of the very few things I have ever returned to Amazon since being a customer since 2003. BTW the Samsung BD-P3600 was able to process the SD movies files on the TVersity Media Server without any problem.

Apart from playing DVDs well the integration with Netflix and Youtube is very well done. Great DVD player.

 "LEMON!" 2009-12-31
By Ruester (Cincinnati, OH)
My husband and I have recently vowed to stop buying the cheaper, just out of college versions of things and went all out for this one. We were really excited that it connects to Netflix for instant streaming. Boy, were we disappointed!

The player started out ok, but first came the instant stream problems. The programs would have no audio at all, audio/visual that is out of sync, or a movie that would just STOP. Every 3 minutes and 34 seconds. So i would have to reload the video(which could take several minutes) before finding the place in the movie and then going back to the approximate place in the movie. It was so frustrating!!! Netflix blamed it on the player, Samsung blamed it on Netflix. I almost believed Samsung, but they told me one of the problems with the player that was affecting the performance was the time zone setting. What the heck? Unsurprisingly, changing the time zone didn't help.

After a few months, the player started responding slowly to commands. I would push the open button on the unit to insert a dvd and it wouldn't respond for a while. We would have to wait. Sometimes a few minutes. Now it sometimes doesn't respond at all! I am really mad that we spent so much money on something so worthless.

It is a piece of junk. A very pretty, smooth looking piece of junk.

 "Fantastic" 2009-12-31

I received the Samsung BD-P3600 Blue Ray player for christmas 2009. Everything works as expected. After reading some reviews I was worried. But took it out of the box, was pleasantly surprised to see that the wireless dongle was included for internet access. But I knew I was going to plug it in directly to my wireless router for faster connection/downloads. All I did to setup the internet was plug in the CAT5 cable into the back of the unit, turned the unit on and away i was. We have a netflix account and have watched on my laptop for over a year that way, but i must say the picture quality is great. It's not HD but it's awesome. And quick download times. Pandora set up easily as well being that i had an account already. Not interested in Blockbuster. Youtube gave me some problems at first, but after i turned the unit off and back on it was fine.

As for the firmware updates. I haven't updated them, it's giving me the option to every time i turn the unit on, but after all i'm hearing in the comments about the system freaking out, i'm just going to ignore the prompts for now. All the blueray discs i have work just fine, i'm able to connect to BD-Live special features just great. So we'll see how far that gets me.

Picture quality is fantastic on this player. I have a Samsung 40" LCD 1080p, which is nice because the two unit communicate to each other via HDMI hookup due to the Anynet+ system. What that means is that I can use 1 remote to control both units because they're both samsung. But what's nice is that the P3600 uses the TV's Infrared sensor. So the Blue-ray player can be in the cabinet behind closed doors and be controlled as long as the eye on the tV is clear. Also, turn on the Blueray player and the TV turns on and switches to the proper HDMI Input on it's own. Again, Samsung to Samsung communications.

I'm very happy with this player. No problems as of yet and i've watch 4-5 movies so far, as well as some Netflix movies. Pandora is great...pop it on while having dinner. Very nice.

 "Blu-Ray with Wi Fi" 2009-12-30

Unbelievable picture... WiFi hookup was relatively simple once I got my router to send a strong enough signal. The NetFlix downloads are most excellent!
