"Costs as much to repair as it did to buy. Crummy product quality" 2009-12-17
By Berto101 (Marin County, CA)
I had this same model for less that a year. The unit frequently froze on Burned DVD's (DVD-R) recorded from my Mac iDVD program, which played fine on a $29 DVD player. The unit also froze on perfectly good standard DVD's. When I submitted for repairs, Best Buy informed me that it would cost $184 in labor to repair, which is NOT covered in the year warranty. Make sure you purchase a protection plan, but I would not reccomend this unit.

"Good, but an important caveat" 2009-12-17
By Honzik
The ability of the player to connect to the internet enables quite a range features - BD Live, Netflix, YouTube, automatic firmware updating. It also plays music and shows picture, provided they're stored on a local USB disc drive. (I would like it even better if it could connect to UPnP music/video/photo streaming software on my network attached storage, but I realize that such a feature would open a huge can of worms for most users so I'm not surprised it's not there). The picture quality is great although it is a little fussy playing DVDs, particularly if they're scratched. This is not a problem with my Phillips DVD player, so I have a work-around.

There is one big caveat, though. Their parental control blocking works for DVDs and Netflix, but not for YouTube. With children in the house, I've set the control to the most restrictive, which prevents a DVD or Netflix from playing. It, unfortunately, allows unlimited access to YouTube even at the most restrictive control setting. I'm hoping they'll provide a firmware update to fix this bug, but I'm not holding my breath.

"LG has terrible product repair policies" 2009-10-10
By Robert Spearman
I have a BD300 that I purchased less than a year ago so it is still under warranty. BUT, it now rarely recognizes DVDs, and if it does play them will only play correctly for about an hour before failing. After 3 calls to their support center and weeks of waiting I still have not received the promised mailing labels to ship it for repairs. I would also have to get a money order for $69 just for them to diagnose the issue. That's right, no credit card option, no emailed labels, pitiful warranty. What century are they in?

So I have given up and just bought a cheap DVD player for less than that and will use just the netflix streaming on the BD300.

Streaming works OK, but the DVD remote doesn't work well most of the time. Have not figured out the issue.

So can not recommend LG for any products.

 "Totally Disgusted" 2009-10-03
By Diela (Texas)
I'm not sure if it's the firmware updates, or simply poor quality laser heads for the player, but after THREE months, it stopped reading regular DVDs. After SIX months, it stopped playing Blu-Ray disks. The Netflix streaming still worked fine, but since I have an XBox360, that feature was redundant and not worth keeping the machine in my A/V stack.

I'll never buy an LG product again.
