DVDs and BlueRays load quickly. Beautiful picture. Setting up Netflix instant movies wasn't hard at all and worked well.

I am delighted with this Blu-ray player.I found the picture quality even sharper than the excellent video from my up-converting DVD player.
After hooking up an internet connection (hardwire), the unit detected and downloaded firmware updates automatically. I have watched Netflix and Amazon movies, Youtube videos and listened to music. This product upgraded my DVD playing capability and brought streaming video to my hi-def TV. Great!

Got this box since it has the direct internet connection and Netflix, and is a good buy for the price. This is basically an internet computer that also plays BluRay. Have lived with it for about a month now, and am mostly pleased with the performance. Ran a 75' 10/100 cable to it from our router and hooked it up via a switch to share the connection with the Dish DVR. Streamed "A Christmas Story" from Netflix and it had pretty close to DVD quality (16:9) and the streaming was flawless. I was impressed that I could even replay scenes. Playback depends on the quality of the film - the 1970's Superman film was lousy, a 4:3 aspect with poor resolution, but other films such as "The Code" again like DVD quality and I assume will get better. Lots of other internet playback available, YouTube also but the playback picture is smaller as would be expected for those lower resolutions. You can spend all day just using the internet features. These do require signing up with Sony's Bravia service (free).
BluRay and DVD playback is great, and as usual for these Sony boxes, they play any disc that is thrown at them. That being said, startup is a little slower than the DVD unit we replaced, but not too out of line. The 10 sec replay button is really handy and navigation is pretty straightforward. Using an HDMI connection, the BluRay video quality is equal to or better than the HD reception from the Dish network DVR. Surround sound is great also. This box is chock full of features, adjustments, and settings, and I doubt I'll ever get to half of them. Upon initial startup with the Internet connection, it detected it needed a firmware update, downloaded, installed, and I was watching a DVD within 10 minutes - very easy to use.
Annoyances: Some of the menu pop-ups are too slow to go away - for example, after selecting a scene the selection menu will sit blocking the bottom of the screen for about 5 seconds before it goes away. The BD-Live feature doesn't work very well, it would not work with either of the 2 or 4Gig SanDisk thumb drives I used, crashing while downloading an HD trailer. Download speed is very slow as well, so this feature is not pleasant to use and I gave up on it after the first few tries. I can't figure why, since the Netflix stream is fine, but really haven't missed it. It would also be nice if the remote also had an eject button for the disk - I miss that from the old players. And as someone mentioned, it forgets where it was if you turn off the power in the middle of a disc. I suppose most of these can likely be fixed by future firmware updates (there have been at least two additional since setup).
Overall, an excellent buy, and I am very satisfied with this product. Five stars for quality and functionality, minus half a star for the annoyances.

I was looking for a product that would enable me to better use my netflix subscription. Thats when I chanced upion this particular player. I tried Netflix, and the video is AWESOME compared to my ROKU player (Also a great buy!). I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with a sneak preview of "Cloudy with a Chance of MEatballs". The movie played beautifully, surround sound and everything. The BLU Ray disc was awesome too.
ABOUT MY SETUP: I plugged in the hdmi to my Mitsubishi HDTV. For sound, I connected the optical to my Amp. I have an older model amp which does not have an HDMI. For the internet access, I plugged in the Ethernet via cable to a netgear router which is connected my PC. (Simple!).
Word OF CAUTION: If you want to connect to the internet wirelessly, you will need to buy a specific Wireless Bridge. I think the BDP 560 comes with a built in wireless card.

I upgraded from the Sony BDP-S300 to this model. Wow, what an amazing difference. The quick start has you going almost immediately, and the load times for a Blu-ray disc are a fraction of what they were with the old player. Picture/sound and menu navigation are great -- exactly what you'd expect from Sony. Because this player is networked, updating the firmware is quick and simple. You basically choose the menu option and the player automatically goes out to the web and grabs the latest firmware update and installs it without any additional user intervention. Beware: this player does not include a wireless link, so if you want to connect it to your network wirelessly, you will need to purchase a wireless link separately. I actually prefer a hard connection, so this wasn't much of a concern for me. So far, watching Amazon VOD and YouTube has worked flawlessly. I have had a couple of problems streaming Netflix -- I have broadband through my cable company, and since I live in a densely populated area, I don't think I have enough bandwidth during peak times to stream HD movies from this service. It has frozen on me a couple of times.
Overall, I'm amazed with this player. Using your internet connection to stream video directly to your TV is the future. This player takes you there. I'm just hoping that content providers embrace this technology so that you can watch anything you want, whenever you want.
