There are a lot of very technical reviews on this site... this is a simple one aimed at the more basic user... like me.



In short, I am very pleased with this unit.



It was very easy to set up. At first, I connected to the internet thru wi-fi, but the self-calibrating reading was that my bandwidth was below average, and I could see that the streaming picture quality was degraded. So, I spent about 30 minutes fishing a network cable straight from my router (an older Netgear unit) to the plug-in on the back of the player. It was easy and intuitive to go to the menu and switch to the network cable input. Now, the bandwidth indicator shows above-average (although not the BEST) bandwidth / picture quality. (I have COMCAST at about 15 MBPs.) With this setup, my streaming video is better than non-HDTV broadcast TV, but I would say not quite as good as a regular DVD. But you know, that's good enough for Netflix and YouTube.



Firmware update was easy and, as noted elsewhere in other reviews, included a menu revision to add another streaming service. This flexibility is a major plus, in my opinion.



Netflix was easy to set up: the unit instructed me to go to the Netflix website (I am already a subscriber) and input a code then, bang! Up and running. My wife loves it.



I am a big fan of watching YouTube while I work out, and it works great. At first, I was concerned with burn-in of the YouTube menu on my plasma TV, but then I noticed the "display" button which lets you put the video to full-screen, which is great in and of itself, but also gets the fixed menu off of the display.



Finally, the USB slot on the front of the unit that lets you play media off of a thumb drive is a big plus and a bridge to the future. We are big Mac iMovie users, and it is noteworthy that even the newest iMacs don't support burning blu-ray disks... the story is that in Steve Jobs' view, mechanical disk players are already obsolete. I have to say, it is cool to easily play a video file straight off of the chip without first burning to a disk.



I have yet to play a blu-ray disk in the unit, but when it plays regular DVD's they look nice (OK, so I'm not a videophile.)



I like the unit for its excellent streaming qualities, easy setup, and intuitive user interface. I highly recommend it. We may get another one for our other TV...

Played blu-rays very nicely good quality but it didn't last. Regular DVD's played great and the initial blu-rays did also then they started to degrade.

Wouldn't load, if it did it had distortions, artifacts and would freeze. CR said I needed a software upgrade which I did with no help. They said return it and we will repair it. I said it's less then two weeks old I want a new one. Not there policy. So I went to Amazon where I bought it and they are sending me a new one. I would be careful dealing and buying directly from LG and there return policy. I haven't received the replacement yet so the jury is still out and maybe is was just a defective machine, we shall see but beware of the company and who you buy it from. Amazon was a life saver. I'm giving it two stars more based on poor company policy at this point.

The LG BD390 was a breeze to set up and connect to my wireless network. Took less than 30 minutes. I tried some simple YouTube videos and they worked find and were very clear. Have not look at the Netflix, CinemaNow and Vudu streaming. The initial load of a DVD takes a minute or two before it shows up on the screen, but I understand is normal on most Blu-ray players. Video and sound quality were excellent.

The remote control is fairly simple, nothing fancy, so I just use my universal controller for most functions. The only negative thing I have noticed thus far is the flimsy tray the DVD lays on. Have to very careful - I would not let my kids put a DVD on it as any pressure could snap it in two. I have read this in other reviews. But all in all, excellent Blu-ray player and hope to have for many years.

I've had this one for about eight months now. I thought set up for everything was quick and easy except for the wi-fi. I didn't really spend any time with it so can't really blame the unit.I had a cable in the area so used that for the internet connection.



Load time is quick and everything works great. The Netflix works fine and as indicated before, shows the movies/vids already in your instant queue. It would be nice if you could search/browse Netflix content but that's a software or Netflix issue that could be resolved someday. VUDU quality is really nice. YouTube is fun here and there and the computer connection was no problem at all. Haven't used Cinemanow or other features much.



Overall, very pleased with the functionality vs price.

I had planned to get rid of my cable (AT&T U-verse) for quite a long time and finally went for it. The main component is the LG BD-390 that I use for watching Netflix and Vudu with. Due to the Netflix subscription I have also watched Bluray on it, and it looks really great.



Setting it up was very easy, the only "hassle" is that with Netflix and Vudu you need to registrate and then handle the account from your laptop (and the Netflix queues, too), but that is minor. I have a fast Internet connection (100Mbs) so I have not had any problems with streaming/downloading, and the quality has been very good. Vudu HDX movies look extremely good.



Very happy with the unit - at least so far :-)

Well I have to say this was a great purchase for under $200.00. I read everyones reviews and did my research on the other brands. After doing all the research, I finally decided to buy all LG products. I got the 42inch tv, LG home theater system and the LG Blue-ray disc player all for under $1,000.00. Great purchase in my eyes and works great. I'd recommend it to everyone..

 "Great Blu-Ray Player for the Money!" 2010-01-01

I bought this Blu-ray player about a month ago and have used it quite extensively over that period. I will first say that for the money, I am very happy with the product I purchased and the features that come with it. Before purchasing this player I spent a lot of time reading reviews like this one and determined that I really wanted to purchase one of the players that allowed me to stream Netflix and a player that had a relatively quick load time.



First, the load time on the BD370 is very good (I think). I have never owned another Blu-ray player and therefore cannot compare it to anything else. Yet, because I have no previous experience with Blu-ray, I also didn't have any previous expectation on how fast the discs should load; I just wanted a player that would load a disc in a reasonable amount of time that wouldn't seem "long". After watching 10+ movies, I can say that the load time is more than acceptable and should be for the average person who might be buying their first Blu-ray player (like myself).



Second, the Netflix streaming is awesome. The BD370 does not have wireless capabilities and therefore you have to connect it through the internet using an Ethernet cable. My router is on the other side of my apartment and therefore I connected the BD370 to the internet using an ethernet connection coming from my Apple AirPort Express (which is an awesome product in itself). At first, I was unsure whether or not that quality of the streaming video would be good because of the wireless connection through the AirPort Express. Yet, after watching a full season of Friday Night Lights, I was happy to see that most (all but 1 or 2) of the episodes were streaming in HD quality (so it says in the bottom of the picture) even if one of my three roommates was also doing something bandwidth heavy on the internet at the same time (Skyping, watching The Daily Show on Hulu, etc).



In the end, I would strongly recommend the BD370 and think its a great Blu-ray player for some one who may be buying their first player and wants a good player for a good price. The Netflix streaming is very nice (especially if you are interested in any of the TV shows that you can steam for free: The Office, Friday Night Lights, etc), the load time is more then sufficient, and the picture/audio quality is exactly what I was expecting from Blu-rays. My only regret now is that I had bought a nicer TV a year ago to now take full advantage of the video quality that the Blu-ray can output.

overall the players design and features are attractive. It streams Netflix easily though the interface is clunky (maybe this is Netflix's issue). but within a month the door on the front had broken off and within two months the player stopped playing CDs and regular DVD's. I should have returned it then but the Blu-Ray was still working...for another 4 months. I shipped it back to LG, waited a week and then got a snail mail letter requesting a $69 disgnostic fee. that stinks. overall, not pleased at all. think I'll stick with Sony next time around.

I already reviewed the problems I had with the first BluRay player purchased for Christmas (the Samsung BD-P3600). I returned it and purchased this system as the Samsung's replacement. So far, I couldn't be happier.



The system set up very easily, and played discs right away. No issues whatsoever. This was the main problem I had with the 3600. So, that problem being overcome, I moved on to the NetFlix.



I decided to skip the BD390 (WiFi version) in favor of this player for a couple of reasons. First, if you have a CAT-5 connection near your system, WiFi isn't really necessary (obviously). Second, cost - the 370 was [...] bucks cheaper and only lacked WiFi. Everything else was virtually the same.



Once the cable was hooked up, all that was required was to go to the NetFlix logo on the menu. The system located the connection, then prompted me to go to the website on my laptop to enter a code. Once entered, I loaded movies into the "Watch Instantly" queue, and that was all! Movies entered showed up on my screen for selection. I watched a few and they worked great. The picture quality was outstanding. No lag, no loss of quality.



Although I haven't thoroughly reviewed the BluRay aspects of the player, from my initial check of that feature, there seem to be no issues. Movies loaded, menu worked fine, was able to skip, scan, pause, and stop without problems.



Comparing the Samsung systems (BD-P1600/3600) to the LG systems (BD370/390), there is no doubt for me - go with LG. You won't be disappointed.
