"Atlantis Shuttle is quieter than this. STOP!" 2010-02-15
By H. Teixeira (Massachusetts, USA)
I bought this Blu-Ray player on sale for under $100 and I thought I got a STEAL. Little did I know....I was stolen from.

This item is nothing more than a fancy New Years Noise Maker that would be late to its own party, it's that slow.

1) It literally takes about a minute or minute and a half to eject a disc. Really? While my other $29 regular DVD player immediately ejects a disc, this one MUST start the movie first...then eject.

2) The Noise coming out of this unit is insanely loud. It sounds like your driving 80mph over the safety wake up strips on the side of the highway. I personally think it's a design flaw as it does get quieter as you get further into the movie (at least 30 mins in) - meaning, the balancing may be off. My other $29 regular DVD player plays so quietly, you hardly know its on. This will literally wake your kids up (on the second floor!)

3) The remote control response is insanely slow and unpredictable. How frustrating is it when you're trying to pause the movie and a) you can't find the button and b) it takes 3 or 4 clicks before the dvd player catches it - and you're literally directly in front! What worse is when you hit the play button to start, its sounds like your playing hungry hungry hippos. I'm not kidding.

4) This DVD player does do a great job up-converting a standard DVD - it really does. Blu-Ray picture is excellent - but what good are the cool menus with the previous complaint with the remote?

If you're thinking about purchasing this DVD Player - Please think twice.

It's not worth the bottles of Excedrin you'll need to compensate.

"If you are reading this, you own or are considering this player. Stop. Now." 2010-01-31
By Mary B. Canada (eau claire, wi)
If you own this player, you have my sympathies. If you're considering it, stop now and do something better for you, like eating a plate of broken glass or bathing in razor blades. Your local electronics store should post a guard near the electronics section advising customers to avoid any blu-ray player that has been within 500 feet of a box containing one of these players, for fear of infection. This is the first blu-ray player I've ever purchased and therefore I cannot make a recommendation for another one, but this piece of go-se is being returned tomorrow and exchanged for something useful, like $109 worth of cheese. Seriously, it sounds like the loudest adult novelty shoulder massager you've ever heard placed on a soundstage alone and amplified. I've had quieter hair dryers, and the only less effective way of playng a regular dvd is to put it in a CD player. Run fast and run far.

"I had the same problems as everyone else here." 2010-01-25
By Joseph P. Lenze (Pennsylvania)
To summarize:

1.) Whirring noise is so loud you have to blast the volume to drown it out.

2.) Interface is so poorly programmed that if you want to eject a BluRay/DVD to return, it will seriously take 1 minute,

3.) You will begin to think you have the worst luck with defective rentals, because about 50 to 60% of DVDs and BluRays will skip. Then you'll figure out it's the player not the disc.

 "Bought yesterday, returning today" 2010-01-22
By Thomas Thompson (VICTORIA, TEXAS, US)
Bought this player at major retailer yesterday, hooked up and inserted blu-ray disc, played fine, pic quality very good, However, I like to test all capabilities of new equipment before giving full confidence in an item.

I decided to try out it's ability to play regular DVDs . What a surprise! My unit started to vibrate so violently that the noise woke my wife on the other side of the house!. No Kidding. Tried 4 different Standard DVDs , only 1 played at all, the rest did not. These were newish, only slight wear. The one that did play did so , but had serious vibration issues. the others had such a vibration, that i thought it would destroy the player. All discs work fine on other dvd player.

This is totally unacceptable for the reason that it says it will play standard def dvds , at an upscaled quality. This unit will not play them at all, without much trouble or excessive sound.

This unit appears to play blu-rays just fine, however I would be leary of the longevity and quality of a device that will not perform as described by manufacturer.

I wish i could give this device negative stars, however, it does play blue ray discs seemingly fine, so must give credit there.

I suggest anyone even considering this device to steer clear. This is a known issue with this player, just google it and you will see.

Spend a little extra time and research a device before you buy, read the reviews from as many sites as you can in order to make an informed decision to make your money go further and have optimal satisfaction.
